I started as an HTML Specialist and quickly moved over into design in 2007. I did a lot of design work for a company called Origin 3 until the company closed in late 2007. It was the days of splicing images and doing a lot of repeating backgrounds. Divs were just barely making their way into HTML markup and the CSS to make them cooperate was young and unwieldy.
Everything was tables and it took a lot of work to make interesting layouts. I’m grateful for those days of writing a lot of code as it made me very proficient in DOM markup and helped me understand CSS inheritence in a way that I don’t think is as easy to grasp anymore.
I eventually moved over into brochures, magazine adverts and more. My focus is much less on design now, but it’s something I still greatly enjoy and don’t mind the opportunity when it comes up.
